Yonge and Edward Looking South

Damon Schreiber (Toronto, Canada) on 7 August 2007 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

Sakamoto/Schreiber - Toronto 1977-2007 series starts here.

I'll skip the technical mumbo-jumbo for today, and pick it up again tomorrow.

Note: In the 1977 photo on the left is a sign about books and magazines. If I remember correctly (that shop existed well into the 80s and perhaps 90s) it read 'Magazines and Books totally concerned with Sex.'Ah, good times... It was fun to capture that 1970s car on the right - sort of gives it continuity. And speaking of which, it appears to me that only one building has remained in this frame: The one on the corner just to the immediate right (in the 1977 photo of Eatons). You can see from that, that I'm a bit too close in my version. You can also see that the long-forgotten movie theatre in this photo was the Biltmore which apparently closed down in 1977. Check out this photo from 1950 (apparently - maybe someone has another opinion?) - hard to believe it's the same place: now I'm getting inspired to visit the Toronto City Photo archives and reach farther back with another similar exercise...
