Just remember that.
Hi-res here.
[Spadina Station, Toronto - mmmmodified just that little bit]
Do you spend a lot of time around the subway?! I like the pp on this, and the low-key lighting (which I suppose you can't do a lot about!)

@Bronnie: You could say that. I use it for commuting during the winter, so I'm making the most of a necessity by using it as a place to take photos. I talked about it a bit on the last day of 2006. Subway does have low-key lighting, and that's a definite limitation for my camera which I can't say is any good at all past 200 ISO, but does at least have a fast (f2) lens. In an attempt to minimise shutter lag, I generally keep it set at 1/25 sec f2 200 ISO when I'm on the subway, so it doesn't slow things down by metering the scene. Because the lighting is low but even, this usually works out.
In this photo, the exposure was much brighter than what you see here. I used Photoshop to create some 'mood' and other things.
Fantastic composition, and I love the concept. The lighting really fits the mood. Great work.

@Francis: Thanks so much, Francis!
@William: Thanks, William!
Mate, this capture is great!
Love your PP it's great. The colours tones are spot on. Also the highlights are good too. The brighter yellow line gives this image a real base and balances the yellow in the background. Nice one

@Darren: Many thanks, Darren! Glad you liked.
@Angry Buddha: Ah, but it is...
Like how everyone's bathed in a halo of light - like a star. Very subtle processing. Super shot.

@Stu: Subtle? Thanks, Stu?
Right, you're mental...theres no wheels spinning in ditches as far as I can see. Only a sublime subway shot. Love the tones throughout, the human element, the message, the danger sign, the fact that the numbers on the columns make this look like a gian film contact strip. Yee gods Damon...its brilliant.

@Duncan Galbraith: Oh, thanks, Duncan! This only proves that the wheels are so far off that you can no longer find them. I mean this has had more touch ups than Frankenstein's monster...
@Alby: Many thanks, Alby!
I like the contrast between the message and real life portrayed by the people. Did you put that cut out shadow on the poster?
19 Feb 2007 7:53pm
@Carol: Thanks Carol! Well you see, the actual poster in the station was way too distracting and irritating for the composition, so I took the liberty of replacing it with an advertisement for this site. The cut-out figure is the outline of the man immediately to the right of the poster.
@Craig Persel: Many thanks, Craig!
Nice one mate. Everyone's a star.......on the internet; great stuff. Exceptionally well composed, the person on the far left of the frame balances things off nicely.

@Chris Sullivan: Hey thanks, Chris!
The name "Spadina" reminds me so much of the 3 days we were there visiting Toronto ... specifically Chinatown. I really like this one, Damon! Looks kinda spooky, but very unique in its own way. I especially like how the sign of "Danger" is leading to "Everyone's a star on the internet ..." Very effective sign of warning :)

@Lyndsey Le: Many thanks, Lyndsey! I know what you mean about 'Spadina'. Bit of trivia for those who care: Spadina is pronounced spa - die - na" But there's a museum at the top of the street called Spadina house which is always pronounced spa-dee-na. Wikipedia claims that some people pronounce Spadina road north of bloor as spa-dee-na and that this constitutes an upper/lower class marker. Personally I've never heard any Torontonian refer to the street other than Spa-die-na. I think it's more of a resident/newcomer marker. For a much more interesting exploration of the street, check out "Spadina Bus" by the Shuffle Demons which was a top 40 hit here in 1986, and incredibly funny to boot. These days, the bus has been replaced by a streetcar.
really nice composition, it's quite hard to get anything out of tube-shots, but you certainly managed here!
