North by North 44°

Posted by Damon Schreiber (Toronto, Canada) on 22 January 2010 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

It's that time of year again. I wracked my brains thinking of somewhere to find the number 44 writ large. Then I remembered: oh yes, that famous restaurant against which I continue to hold a grudge.

Really, I'm no grudge-holder as a rule. But I've noticed over the years that I have nursed a few petty grievances with restaurants and restaurateurs. This is one such place. Around 17 years ago, when I was a cook, I worked there for a night and never got paid for it.

So here I am, older (yes), wiser (perhaps), and more forgiving (today at least). Thus I declare today that my grudge against Mark McEwan and his restaurant North 44° is hereby over. All is forgiven. (Nobody cares.)

Forward I go into the next 44.

[Update: I changed the title from "44 Down." The photo started to remind me of the classic Hitchcock film North by Northwest.]
