20 years ago today

It was 1989. I was in San Miguel de Allende, México. I was days away from meeting the woman I was to marry. Just standing in the crowd with my Canon F-1, watching the parade in honour of General Ignacio Allende who was born on 21 January, 1769. Now, so long ago.

Is your wife from Mexico? What a story. I met my wife here in Mexico City --a native of D.F.-- and my son was born two years into the marriage in Mexico as well. Interesting how Mexico has a way of leaving its mark on the world and on us as individuals.

Beautifully captured image. The classic film feel and the selective focus on the woman simply spot on.

@Luis A. De Jesus R.: Ha ha, no, even stranger: we met in Mexico, but she's Japanese. We spoke only Spanish to each other for the first 6 months or so of our relationship because although it wasn't perfect, it was our common language. (Now we use mostly English and our Spanish has gotten terribly rusty).

What a beautiful photo, Damon! The blurry, colouful humanity makes a fitting background to the lacy black mantilla (sp?). I am moved that you associate the photo with meeting your future, lovely wife. ..... Ruth

@rooftop: Gracias, Ruth! It might be more accurate to say that I associate that period of time with meeting my wife. But it was a good time for sure. I'll be looking in my slide box for more preserved memories.
