It's an annual tradition in Toronto's Kensington market that on Good Friday (the Friday before Easter) the proprietors of the fish markets grill fresh sardines on the sidewalk for the customers. Many years ago, they gave the sardines away for free, but these days they cover their costs by charging a dollar for the meal you see here.
I didn't go last year because of rainy weather, and indeed I haven't gone for four years I think. But yesterday, my son and I made the trip and enjoyed our sardines. It was quite a scene, and more photos will follow. But I'm starting off with this tempting morsel of haute street cuisine. And yes, we ate the heads.

Obviously it was most decidedly not a "good" Friday for the sardine! Hope it was good and I look forward to more shots from the market.

Why, it must have been very tasty! Having to grill sardines at home means bad fishy smell, so eating themt outside saves the air inside! And I bet they taste better in the street!

mmhh, I love sardines – with salad and baked potato – mmmhh. And with fresh bred must be great too. This is a nice tradition you have.
