Never having seeing the " pole with a ring" near the street light before in Japan,I couldn't understand what it is.
I tried to search for it on the internet and I found it . seems like it is called "Toronto's ring-and-post stands" and is used for fastening a bicycle to it. It is a cultural difference for sure.

This picture could have benefited from "same time of day" since the shadow lines are quite imposing. Being extremely nitpicking, I also wouldn't have blocked the fire hydrant (with the biker) since it's an interesting focal point in Sakamoto's image. But a fantastic shot nonetheless and my critiques are only small commentary on a fabulous concept and execution.

@Aaron Schmidt: Thanks for the comment, Aaron! It's an interesting observation you make about the shadows. You're right of course, but there's also something you don't know: during the entire day, there's a hot dog vendor parked exactly where I needed to stand to take that picture. I felt very fortunate coming in late afternoon and finding the vendor wasn't there.

The biker I think adds a new focal point - and provides a way to imagine the modern city with pedestrians and cyclists, but no cars. Of course that's not a true picture, but one can dream. I was very happy when the cyclist appeared there while I was ready to snap. Thanks again.
