Noble Steed

I came across this tired old workhorse the day before yesterday, looking so serene there in my back alley, and following generally the same lines as in the previous photo. I tried out a few new processing ideas on this photo.

@Daroru: I'm shocked that you'd even suggest such a thing! I never nicked a bike (or had one nicked) in Japan either. Is that common? It's certainly happened to me here.

@Kheoh Yee Wei: Thanks, Kheoh! Those yellow things are pretty common in this city: plastic covers for cabling which helps keep telephone poles upright. I'm sure they've appeared in other photos of mine.

A very nice street scene/urban landscape. The image draws the eye in and seems to flow deeper, from left to right and beyond. Excellent composition.

Nice, and you totally missed me handing over my wallet to some guy at knifepoint just out of the frame. I like this shot, it's simple and has the ability to make you look into the image and wonder what is going on just beyond the frame.

nice one Damon. seems to have wonderful and inviting glow surrounding our noble steed here. was this via rendered lighting or were you lucky enough to catch the natural light. In response to darorus comment, aye, nicking bikes is as much a part of japanese culture as eating sushi these days. Well not quite but the sheer amount of 'em that go missing is insane. Its all very efficiently done though...they even have 'marker' boys who go round marking whats to be taken, before a big truck pulls up and a 'team' do a snatch and grab.

@Duncan Galbraith: The lighting was mostly natural, though I did employ some of the techniques I read about while researching the Dragan technique (thanks) - a lot more dodging and burning in various ways than I normally do.
