Chapulín

as the electroblog continues its virtual Mexican holiday...

Taken in the Teotihuacán temple complex. The pyramids there have seen civilisations rise and fall. This grasshopper's ancestors have these things as well. Further south in Oaxaca, they sell these guys toasted in the marketplace, salted with a bit of lime for flavour. They make a great snack.

@Kheoh Yee Wei: Thanks, Kheoh! The first time we went to Oaxaca with my son, he was 7 was so disgusted with me for trying them that he refused to speak to me for several hours. This time was four years later, and he and I shared a bag. I say when in Rome, do as the Romans do. But I agree, they're more photogenic like this...

Hi, again.
I like this photo very much. Is there any way you could reproduce it for me as a colored photo? If I said "please"? I would like to give it to Cousin Candace. One of the rooms in her apartment has a sunflower theme. And, by the way, the grasshopper snack sounds delicious! I have to go eat now, but it will only be vegetables, sadly. (Candace retired from her payroll clerk job of over 30 years, last week. ) Love Ruth
