@jc: Many thanks, John! I 'invented' a new colour-contrast technique on this one which I'll happily share with the Photoshop geeks out there (don't deny it; you know who you are).

Create a channel mixer adjustment layer, and for that layer, change the blend mode to luminosity. Then open the channel mixer adjustment and set it to monochrome, then play with the three channels till you achieve the desired effect. This allowed me to really bring out the tones in her hat and jacket.
