Light bathPosted by Damon Schreiber (Toronto, Canada) on 30 January 2007 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. This one is a couple months old, but I thought it went well with yesterday's. The subway had been in the tunnel, and shot out into the light. High-Res version here. [University Subway Line, Toronto]

Sidonie from Sydney, AustraliaHi Damon - thisis peaceful, fulll of mood - BTW, I visited your Picasa album for the high res - what's the difference exactly? 30 Jan 2007 6:06am @Sidonie: Thanks, Sidonie! The difference is that on the Picasa site, you can view a 1600x1200 (or thereabouts) version of the photos. If your screen is small like 800x 600, there's no real difference, but for those with bigger screens who want to use these as desktop pictures or just want to look more closely, they can. There are buttons on the Picasa page which allow you do do these things (Download Photo, Magnifying glass). Hope this helps :-) @Lucca: Many thanks, Lucca! Manuela Photography from Hainburg (near Frankfurt/Main), GermanyGreat capture of rays of light! 30 Jan 2007 11:00am @Manuela Photography: Thank you, Manuela! @Evebone: Thanks, Evebone! Angry Buddha from United StatesGreat title for this shot. The rays turned out perfectly. 30 Jan 2007 1:34pm @Angry Buddha: A magic moment. Thanks, Sean! Still from Valence, FranceA fantastic bath, indeed. Very evocative! i like it a lot! 30 Jan 2007 1:42pm @Still: Thanks, Still! The bath looked warm. @Donna: Thanks, Donna! Colour blind from Tokyo, JapanPhoar mate you've done an excellent job on this one. I hope you gave the bloke your photoblog address because he'd be impressed with the picture. He looks like he's from k-pax and just travelled here on the beam of light shining through the window. 30 Jan 2007 2:01pm @Colour blind: I don't think they have internet access on k-pax (though I could be wrong). Thanks, Kelley! Craiger from Vacaville, California, United StatesI really like those light rays! 30 Jan 2007 3:02pm @Craiger: Many thanks, Craig! Darren from JapanLove how you have captured the light rays coming through the wondow mate. What's the tip? Low f stop? 30 Jan 2007 3:04pm @Darren: Not sure what the tip is here... It kind of looked like this in reality as well which was why I grabbed the camera. Thanks, Daz! Stu from Kyoto, JapanA very dramatic shot. The intensity of the light gives it an ethereal feel. Could be the gates of Heaven through those windows and this is the train carrying the dearly departed. Super shot. 30 Jan 2007 4:40pm @Stu: Even the dearly departed get bored enough on the train to read the newspaper. Thanks, Stu! Fred from Easton PA, United StatesGreat photo, the dark wood tones really highlight the rays of the sun pouring in. 30 Jan 2007 4:52pm @Fred: Thanks, Fred! Wood tones maybe, but no real wood to be seen, sadly. @Jen: Thanks, Jen!!! Maoya from Rolle, SwitzerlandReally impressed with the use of light here, most excellent! The scene gives off a great and rare feeling for a subway: enlightened, light and serene. 30 Jan 2007 5:32pm @Maoya: Thank you, Maoya! For a fleeting moment, it felt that way. I'm always amazed by the power of light to tranform a scene, and just as quick, like a wild animal, it's gone. Jerry from Tampa, United StatesGRAND use of available light! Very compelling image! 30 Jan 2007 7:04pm @Jerry: Many thanks, Jerry! @Ali-G: All the best, Ali-G! Kelvin Chan from New York City, United Statesthis is all good. if you pointed the camera more to the right and leave out the door, and tilted it up so that there is less space under the feet, then it'd be top notch. time to get a dslr mate, the noise and resolution is killing me. 31 Jan 2007 2:00am @Kelvin Chan: Already cropped a fair bit. I like the door, but I'll agree with you about tilting it up. Your last sentence is one I want to print out and hang on my wall. It's killing me too, believe me. Working, saving... shouldn't be too long now... Thanks, Kelvin! Martine Lapointe from Québec, CanadaA very special and unique shot! Bravo Damon ! :-) 31 Jan 2007 3:24am @Martine Lapointe: Merci bien, Martine! Duncan Galbraith from kyoto, Japanlovely shot, never thought the subway could be so bathed in light as opposed to bleached in it. nice work. 2 Feb 2007 1:55pm @Duncan Galbraith: Thanks, Duncan! One of those unusual scenes that had me scrambling for the camera. It's amazing how the weather the time of day, the season, all these things add up to particular kind of lighing that may never be seen again. @Untitled: (!) Thanks, Shadow! M.E. from Encino, United Statesthe subject matter in your pictures and how you compose them is always so interesting and well presented. 3 Feb 2007 3:54pm @M.E.: Well, I take a lot of pictures, so it's hit or miss, mostly miss, but I try not to post too many of those. Thanks, ME! Rene from Kitchener-Waterloo, CanadaThis image rocks, the whole getting the light right is excellent. Only time I have ever gotten rays of light in an image is when I added with with a 3rd party plugin. Excellent. 10 Feb 2007 7:06am @Rene: Yeah, nothing (in Photoshop) quite duplicates the feeling of real light. Thanks, Rene! |
