Evelyn from New Milford, United StatesHm...I think I like No. 2 the best for the striking colors and the full "frame within a frame" effect. But I also really like the texture of the stone in this one. 8 Jan 2007 5:49am @Evelyn: Thanks, Evelyn! It isn't a beauty contest, you know. You don't have to choose :-) That said, however, I do like to close a series with what I think is the strongest image, but I didn't really have that feeling about this one. (So I might agree with you, all in all). Lyndsey Le from Houston, TX, United StatesI can't seem to put this into the plotline, Damon :) I like this one the best ... a masterpiece w/ various colors, textures, lines and shapes. Looking forward to your "successful voyeur" series! 8 Jan 2007 5:57am @Lyndsey Le: Thanks, Lyndsey! All will become clear when you fall asleep and start peering through strange windows in your dreams... Adiemus from Christchurch, New ZealandI like the second best also, but this one has interest and variety - I think you haven't really finished your voyeurism really!! 8 Jan 2007 6:39am @Adiemus: Thank you, Adiemus! We'll see; we shall see... @H.O: [ 0_0 ] Arigatou Hiro-san! benjamin from Singaporethe fence was a nice thing to add in. lots of variety. but cant seem to figure which is the focus... the ship? 8 Jan 2007 10:31am @benjamin: Thanks, Benjamin! Could be the ship. It's a "she" you know. @Dolphin: Thank you three thousand times then, Dolphin! @Stu: Thanks, Stu. You should check this place out if you get the chance sometime. Lots of cool photographic opportunities. It's part of the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art in Kobe (a couple stations east of Sannomiya). @Makoto: Thanks, Makoto! @Angry Buddha: | Thanks, Sean! | Sylvia from Milano, ItalyReally excellent unsuccessful shots (chortle)---this one is really art with the frame and all, and the colors. Of course, the upside down peace symbol on the lower right/left? gives it Satanic overtones that add a nice frisson (or 'frizzon' in American English). 8 Jan 2007 5:14pm @Sylvia: Thanks, Sylvia! Yeah, I was thinking about Satanic frisson when I composed it... Martine Lapointe from Québec, CanadaThis is the one that I prefer! A view to the water! Beautiful framing! 8 Jan 2007 5:24pm @Martine Lapointe: Merci bien, Martine! The idea for making such a strange series was that I found I had these two images with similar compositions but different subjects. And then I looked for a third, which became the first (1 of 3) and which provided the theme. But the story may continue... @Untitled: Thanks, Shadow! Still from Valence, FranceI A piece of water including in the wall... Fine image. The idea of the series is really interesting! 8 Jan 2007 8:43pm @Still: Thanks, Still! This window in the photograph is a strange one... It's hard to describe, but it's an outdoor wall without much purpose other than to provide a framed view of the water. Duncan Galbraith from kyoto, JapanGreat finale Damon! wow, you sat on this one for a while didnt you? I have to ask, as its a great series, how long has this been in the pipeline? I have visions of you formulating the idea whilst on the kobe dock, seeing its potential there and then but waiting until all the pieces fell into place. For me the 2nd was the winner by a hairs breadth, but thats just because I have a penchant for laundrymats ;) 9 Jan 2007 3:18pm @Duncan Galbraith: Thanks, Duncan! You've sort of got the idea, but really what happened was I took the first one before I had much idea of even having a photoblog or any idea of a "series". Then I took the second one, and on review was startled at the resemblance to the first... Didn't think too hard about what kind of person takes pictures through windows (of ships and laundrettes) - though I was once accosted by a woman on the street who said incredulously, "you take pictures of doors?" But yes, at that point I started thinking about finding a third such image and was actively seeking out a photo that could be composed similarly. And in my travels I happened past the back door of a restaurant where I could see a barenaked lady through the doorway (who of course was painted on a wall). So I took that and decided that it should be a series about somebody who peers into interiors but never finds what he seeks - sometimes he doesn't even find an interior. So there's your story, your de-mystification. Fun to try and find the connection between unrelated pieces - definitely a challenge I enjoy: I'm a bit schizophrenic that way. Fred from Easton PA, United StatesI'd frame this one and hang it on a wall ! 9 Jan 2007 6:27pm @Fred: Thanks, Fred! I'll happily sell you a print :-) Or did you mean "if I were you..."? Fred from Easton PA, United StatesIf it were me /grin. 10 Jan 2007 5:42pm @Fred: Sounds like fun a good way to get an ocean view. Sébastien from Toulouse, FranceIn my opinion, "the Unsuccessful Voyeur" is rather successful ! I am impressed because you managed to do this beautiful serie with simple windows! 11 Jan 2007 10:50pm @Sébastien: Thanks, Sébastien!!! The world is full of simple things that are beautiful when abstracted from their surroundings. |
