Elgin & Winter GardenPosted by Damon Schreiber (Toronto, Canada) on 21 December 2006 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. The Elgin and Winter Garden theatres were built in 1913 as large movie houses, and continued showing films for many years while becoming more and more run down as time went on. They were restored in the 1980s, and the Elgin is now the most luxurious venue of the Toronto International Film Festival (apart from the Gala presentations). I've spend many an hour lining up along this sidewalk in Septembers past. There's a bit more to their history and another view in this Wikipedia entry. Also compare this shot from Dileep of almost exactly the same scene at almost the same time of the evening, and probably almost the same day. His shot, titled Drive By has a much more dreamy feeling from the motion blur and I really like it. [Yonge near Queen, Toronto]
