Hanshin Itami LinePosted by Damon Schreiber (Toronto, Canada) on 12 December 2006 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. Continuing the series of emulated images. This will explain what I'm talking about. This is actually my father-in-law, so snapping him was no problem, though I'm not sure if he noticed anyway. The artist I'm emulating here is damn near ubiquitous on Am3 lately, a first-rate commentator, cracking photog, and all-round stand-up guy (one imagines). Who is it?

You do indeed say cracking a whole lot. Had never heard that word before acctually. So thanks again for your great feed back and wonderful blog!
12 Dec 2006 6:42am @Maoya: Cheers, and I obviously echo the sentiment. H.O from Victoria, CanadaThat's Duncan !? :) 12 Dec 2006 8:11am @H.O: :) Yes, I'm blessed with excellent in-laws. @Makoto T: Atari! @Zach Siebert: Cheers, Zach. Mille grazie! wanganeges from concord, ma, United Statesthis is wonderful! you've done a great job capturing the duncan-feel. 12 Dec 2006 10:37am @wanganeges: Thanks, Wanganeges! Appreciate your kind words. MnX from PARIS, FranceEmulation is a great idea and a great way to learn and improve... I should give it a try, though I'm not sure I'm able of it. This one is nice. 12 Dec 2006 10:49am @MnX: Thank you, Cyrille. Well it's fun to try at least. Shadow Mountains from United StatesOnly heard about this today. Duncs put me on to it. Gutted I missed the first! Going back to check! This is a f***ing brilliant idea! Love it, and the sentiment behind it. Novel and a wonderful way to do a tribute to people on Am3. It's a wonderful way to pay a tribute (and this shot itself is pretty damn good!) Thanks Damon because I just won a six-pack of Asahi out of this! Will save it for Xmas! Hats off to you...and Cheers! 12 Dec 2006 1:42pm @Shadow Mountains: Oh, beer! (おビール!) Personally, I'd hold out for Kirin. Thanks so much, Shadow. @Jason Kravitz: Thanks, mate! @Fallenargo: Thanks, Fallenargo! Duncansian? Jenny from Manchester, United KingdomI instantly thought of Duncan so, Duncan? :P 12 Dec 2006 2:59pm @Jenny: Yup! Duncan Galbraith from kyoto, Japanrighty...I kind of got 'told' I was the subject by another party on here today (I'd actually got 5 names in my head as to who you were going to choose and I never imagined I'd be on the list). As for my official guess...I think its me. 'Cracking' did kind of seal the deal, and if you dont mind me saying, this is indeed a cracking shot Damon. I feel a bit weird to be honest, but in the best possible way as this is a genuine suprise. And I did indeed lose a bet over this, as shadowmountains reckoned I'd be featured to which I scoffed and wagered 'never in a million years!'. Crikey. Crivens. Blimey O'Reilly etc. May I just add, I do love the photo and the idea behind this series is something which has gotten me and everyone Ive talked to about it, talking their hats off to you. Its bloody brilliant. As in Jenny's homage you've put your unique twist on things, particularly with the post processing. I might have to emulate your emulation mate as I love it! I'm a bit speechless to be frank, as I'm a bit awkward with any kind of compliment. I'm much better when someone has a bit of a dig to be honest! 12 Dec 2006 3:00pm @Duncan Galbraith: Oh, did you think it was you then? (Kidding!) Course it was you, mate! Glad you liked it. To tell the truth, I had a few other names in mind as well, and only finalised it recently based on the shots I already had or thought I could get. But when I remembered that I had this "action" shot of my father-in-law reading on the train, I knew I had to use it. Not sure if I got the train line right in the caption. On second thought, it may have been JR. Anyway, enjoy, and see if you can convince shadowmountain to share one of his beers with you. Martine Lapointe from Québec, CanadaOh, I think that we have goods psychologists on the am3 community! Beautiful homage to Duncan! I guessed the answer before I had reading the comments. You did a good descritption and your picture reflect well Duncan' style! 12 Dec 2006 5:46pm @Martine Lapointe: Merci bien, Martine!!! Some good psychologists indeed! Peggy Picot from Paris, FranceBravo! I really appreciate that picture! I think you didn't have lots of time to take it! very nice portrait... complimenti! 12 Dec 2006 6:18pm @Peggy Picot: Thanks, Peggy! I took one or two others, but of course I was attracted to his expression in this one. Still from VALENCE, FranceBeautiful and neat portrait. iI like the expression of this man! 12 Dec 2006 9:09pm @Still: Thanks, Still! Mammoth in Chief from Naperville, United StatesVery recognizable style... Great shot! 12 Dec 2006 9:23pm @Mammoth in Chief: Thank you, Mammoth. M.E. from Encino, United Statesi like how you captured the facial expression and hand movement. 12 Dec 2006 9:59pm @M.E.: It looks like a real "page turner", doesn't it? Thanks, M.E.! Aaron Schmidt from Auckland, New ZealandThis would have been perfect if he had been sitting on some kind of strange equipment. ;) Another nice one. 13 Dec 2006 1:07am @Aaron Schmidt: I see your point, Aaron... Thanks! @Craig Persel: Many thanks, Craig! Colour blind from Tokyo, JapanMate I thought I'd accidently opened Duncs site...great job with this picture. The facial expression is classic. I'm loving this series. You're right about Duncs too great description. 13 Dec 2006 1:20am @Colour blind: Ah, there you go. Perhaps Duncan will one day see my papa-in-law riding the train (likely between Osaka and Kobe). Then he can add his own twist. Thanks, Kelly! David Widepixel from Verbania, ItalyGreat Shot! with a perfect BW post-processing! 15 Dec 2006 7:05am @David Widepixel: Thanks, David! I actually tried to make this look like expired colour film originally, but I couldn't get it right, so I chose black and white. The car is a lovely red by the way. @Daniel: Indeed. Thanks, Daniel! |
