Electri-cityPosted by Damon Schreiber (Toronto, Canada) on 6 December 2006 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. You can view this photo's twin sister right here. I couldn't decide which I preferred. I'm sure I can count on the community to voice an opinion, though. Taken with the camera perched on a newspaper box under an umbrella in the pouring rain. This concludes the series of the rainy day. Aaron Schmidt from Auckland, New ZealandI think I prefer the other one but tough to judge with the different image sizes. Upload the twin tomorrow and I'll make my call. =) This one's nice either way. 6 Dec 2006 5:23am @Aaron Schmidt: Thanks, Aaron. We'll make that 0-1 then. Makoto T from Sapporo, JapanHi, Damon-san. 6 Dec 2006 7:32am @Makoto T: ありがとう, Makotoさん! No clear vote here, so still 0-1. @Visions by Dean Christopher.: Thank you, Dean! @Zach Siebert: All righty then: 0-2. Incredible mind messing image today, Zach. wanganeges from concord, ma, United Statesi prefer this one because you can see more of the reflection in the water which i think adds a lot to the photo. i also prefer the detail and colors. the car looks like a fly saucer getting ready to take off ... 6 Dec 2006 10:36am @wanganeges: Thanks, Wanganeges! Thanks kind of how I feel, but then again... 1-2 Craig Persel from Montreal, CanadaI prefer the JPG magazine version. More dramatic and unique. Good to see you submitting to JPG. I also have an account there with submissions to each issue. Good luck. :-) 6 Dec 2006 11:36am @Craig Persel: And good luck to you too! Perhaps Aaron could add a link to JPG magazine profiles in the admin panel. That makes it 1-3. Duncan Galbraith from kyoto, JapanVery nice. oooh...im gonna be a fence sitter...Reasons being, the motion blur in the other shot is obviously much more dramatic and very well handled through PS, and its an instantly alluring image, it has pizazz so to speak. This one however is more measured and the reflections/water on the street give it a most mercurial texture. Theyr'e both very good. Its a bit like apples and oranges in my opinion as I consider the 2 quite different, despite the location. 6 Dec 2006 2:31pm @Duncan Galbraith: A born diplomat! But yeah, I think they really do have different moods to them. Ok, still 1-3 then. Maoya from Rolle, SwitzerlandThey're both pretty psycadelic. I think i like the more abstract of them. 6 Dec 2006 7:48pm @Maoya: Many thanks, Maoya! An abstract answer, perhaps it's the other one that's more abstract. I'm not completely sure. @Angry Buddha: Thanks, Sean. You're on roll lately for sure. Martin from a small village in Lower Austria, AustriaVery dynamic, I have to say that I'd prefer the other version, but nevertheless both shots are axcellent. 6 Dec 2006 9:27pm @Martin: Thank you, Martin. Ok, the other one is pulling ahead now 1-4. bronzebilly from cardiff, United KingdomI was on the fence about these two shots but I fell off and got soaked by the first one--so I prefer this one --great reflections and pace--billy 6 Dec 2006 11:01pm @bronzebilly: Many thanks, Billy! Now 2-4. Mommith in Chief from Naperville, United StatesI like this one better than the last one... It has more lights, focused on streaks, more life in it... Great! 6 Dec 2006 11:43pm @Mommith in Chief: Thanks, Mommith. Just to be clear, we're not voting between this and yesterday's. This one is obviously superior to "pizzaville" - to my eyes. So I'm not sure if your vote was this one over the JPG mag one. I'll hold the tally for clarification. @Martine Lapointe: Merci beaucoup! Thanks, Martine. Eduardo from Santiago, ChileHola Damon, 7 Dec 2006 1:54am @Eduardo: Muchísimas gracias, EDÜardo. For those of you not following along, Eduardo voted for this version, so that makes it 3-4, which makes it pretty inconclusive (which was my original problem). Thanks to all for your comments, and I'm glad you liked the other version as well. @M.E.: Thanks very much, M.E.! tyler sloane from kitchener, CanadaI think this show is wicked! Is the slow shutter speed what makes the lamp posts shine like that? 11 Dec 2006 12:12pm @tyler sloane: Thanks! I think so. I forget the term, but when you leave the shutter open like that, light tends to build up in the area around the source. @tyler sloane: Probably you meant "shot"! No problem; my fingers do all kinds of fumbles on the keyboard. |
