Duncan Galbraith from kyoto, Japangreat perspective and a real couple of characters. Love the processing, youve really brought out the subtleties in te stonework and the couple. 28 Nov 2006 7:02am @Duncan Galbraith: The shot was easy, but getting it straight, cropping it effectively and so on were more challenging. I also only had one more shot left on the card, so I couldn't take as many of them as I would have liked. Thanks for your thoughts, Duncan. Your subway car interior is probably the best closeup candid going. @H.O: どうもありがとう、ひろさん。 Zach Siebert from Bologna, Italytaking pictures of people taking pictures is a great idea. thanks for the email. it helped out. 28 Nov 2006 10:36am @Zach Siebert: Glad to, Zach, and thanks. @wanganeges: Thank you very much! Ryan from CanadaLike the shadowing, the colours, and how you brought out the textures in the brick. 28 Nov 2006 1:29pm @Ryan: Thanks, Ryan. @alberto motterle: Thank you, Alberto. Everyone, if you haven't done so, go to Alberto's site. His photos are top-notch! Ryan Yam from Quezon City, PhilippinesWow. I like the subject. The colors are superb and the PP is great :) 28 Nov 2006 5:11pm @Ryan Yam: Thanks, Ryan. It's hard to see at this small size, but the guy was wearing a shirt with colourful hand-prints all over it. @Ali-G: Thanks Ali. @Still: Thanks. They were in their own world, but still enjoying the streetlife below. @Mommith in Chief: Thanks, Mammoth. They didn't seem to be too worried about Big Brother, but the everpresent lens caught them anyway. They will have to answer for thoughtcrime, artcrime, and ... fashioncrime(?) Henry Zhang from New York, United StatesBeautiful composition and tones!http://akysiev.aminus3.com/ 28 Nov 2006 11:15pm @Henry Zhang: Thanks a lot, Henry. And welcome to Am3. Looks like you're joining your talented friends. THE JUXTAPOSED IMAGE from Tallahassee, Fl, United StatesHonest comment on the parade shoot.... You said the people were more intresting than the parade itself but you let me down... All I got was group shots, and one or two individuals. I think you need to zero in on individuals. 28 Nov 2006 11:33pm @THE JUXTAPOSED IMAGE: Hey there, Ronald. No need to justify constructive criticism; it's always welcome. However, I still need to ask "Why?" You've said that you feel let down, but is it just that you prefer portraits to group shots, or were these lacking for you? The thing about documenting this event, is that it's really almost a wall of people, and I found these groups and the way they congregate and interact much more interesting ultimately than the individuals that you can find any time of the day or night in the city. I did take a few of the type of shot you describe, but decided not to run them as those images didn't convey what I wanted. I think I'd prefer if you'd judge the photo on its own merits rather than what you think a better subject might have been. Because what I didn't capture is infinite, but what I did capture is right here, and therefore possible to discuss. Anyway, I'm always up for a thought-provoking comment or argument, so thanks for that. (And I'm thinking I made the right choice not to post the third group shot I was considering instead of this one!) Michael Zhang from New York City, United StatesThis is an excellent example of selective lighting. This is hard to come by since you cant control the sun! Great photo. 28 Nov 2006 11:46pm @Michael Zhang: But you can tweak it in Photoshop :-) Thanks, Michael. Ben from New York City, United StatesGreat shot! I love the position the two are in! Excellent! 29 Nov 2006 12:19am @Ben: They did look very comfortable there (on the third storey with her foot resting on the ledge). Thanks, Ben. Colour blind from Tokyo, JapanYou've managed to capture the excitement these two have about what they're up to. It was great to capture the surroundings they were in and they're get up is definitly in relation to where they are. You've done a really good job on this one. 29 Nov 2006 12:36am @Colour blind: Thanks colourblind. Couples are fun to photograph, I'd say. Peggy Picot from Paris, Francethis shot is really interesting! I like the "mise en abime". ciao ciao! 29 Nov 2006 1:51pm @Peggy Picot: Thank you, Peggy, for your kind words and for teaching me something! I had to look up "mise en abime" in the dictionnaire. So for others who are unfamiliar with this term, it refers to a recursive image, in this case taking a photo of someone taking a photo. Ciao! Angela Datre from New York, United Statesi really like this one.. 29 Nov 2006 4:40pm @Angela Datre: Thank you, Angela! @Addey: Thank you, Addey. I'm almost copping your style in this one! |
