El GordoPosted by Damon Schreiber (Toronto, Canada) on 13 October 2006 in People & Portrait and Portfolio. Technically, there is much to criticise here. The light was so strong that even using my hand as a lens hood, the glare was unavoidable. I should have shot using f8 or higher rather than f5.6 to get the foreground subject in better focus. My Canon G3 much as I love it for composition really sucks for capturing any sort of action. In this case I was standing on the sidewalk across the street from the shop in the picture. I was snapping as people walked past me, hoping that a suitable subject would appear in the frame. I say "hoping" because shutter lag can be a couple seconds. All that said, I really like the composition and the subject. I thought it was funny, but no offence intended to the fine gentleman who just happened to by passing through. He's not really so "gordo"*. * A note to those who don't speak Spanish, "el gordo" translates as something like "fattie" or "fatso", though not necessarily as negative. My father suggested "big guy", as in "Hey, big guy!" Kensington Market, Toronto
